Kiptopeke State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger Supervisor position.
Job Summary:
Self-motivated and dependable individual needed to assist in the performance and supervision of recurring tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities. They will complete assigned tasks independently as well as within a team, to ensure tasks are finished in a high quality and timely manner
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Janitorial duties to include cleaning public bathrooms and bathhouses and park buildings.
- Facility and ground maintenance to include but not limited to mowing grass, weed eating, and trash and litter removal.
- Heavy equipment operations such as tractors, skid steers, and bobcats.
- They will assist with facility inventory organization and provide accurate information for ordering parts and supplies.
- Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Additional duties include but are not limited to: skilled facility repair (drywall installation, electrical, roof installation/repair, boardwalk/boat ramp repairs), skilled equipment repairs (small engine specialty service, diagnostic services/parts ordering), assistance with trail/volunteer projects, and independent project designs and execution.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Maintenance experience related to the upkeep and repair of park buildings, grounds, and equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, small/large engine repair, diesel engine repair, hydraulic systems repair, and landscaping.
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools, landscaping equipment, and cleaning supplies, and ability to organize and perform routine cleaning and maintenance functions.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Additional Considerations:
- Previous experience in the following areas: landscaping, trail maintenance, construction, and facility/equipment/vehicle maintenance and repair.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
