DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the job announcement's close date.

Generally applications must be made through the RMS (electronic state application). We will, however, accept paper applications for some state park slots. Be sure to refer to the individual recruitment for specific requirements.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! Join us in preserving what people care about most – access to the outdoors, natural habitats, open spaces, clean water, and safe infrastructure.

Hayfields State Park is accepting applications for an Office Manager Assistant position.

Job Summary:

Hayfields State Park seeks a reliable, dependable, and knowledgeable individual to perform a variety of administrative and financial tasks. This position will serve at the park office, gift shop, and provide support for special events and other assigned tasks as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile revenue for cash registers, prepare cash and credit revenue deposits, enter revenue data into respective software, maintain accurate and neat filing and storage, reconcile financial data, procure goods and services, manage park records, process time sheets and payroll, and process invoices for payment.
  • Calculate and enter attendance in a database, return correspondence by phone and email regarding park information & customer requests, process and handle purchases, revenue and expenditure reporting, assist with venue rentals, manage gift shop and conduct inventory counts, train and supervise seasonal staff.
  • Perform general office administration duties as assigned; ensure workspace, front desk, and other customer contact areas are neat and clean; and serve as support staff for park leadership.
  • Available to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with business, computer, and office services, and related practices and procedures.
  • Experience working in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience performing administrative office support using Microsoft Office software and the ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and records management.
  • Experience in providing customer service and maintaining positive public support.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently while handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and prioritize daily duties while demonstrating flexibility with addressing unexpected, urgent assignments.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, in writing, and via electronic methods.
  • Ability to apply math calculations and assist in revenue reconciliation.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work well with park staff, support organizations, and the public.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience providing administrative support and knowledge of the park is desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with budgeting, retail management, and cash management procedures, and knowledge of state procurement policies.
  • Must be or become certified in Basic First Aid and CPR.

Special Instructions:

  • Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
  • Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
  • Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Must be willing and available to work weekends and holidays.

  • Free parking or admission to all Virginia State Parks.
  • DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
    • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
    • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
