Seven Bends State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger position.
Job Summary:
This position supports the operation of the park through a range of duties including, but not limited to, grounds keeping, trash pickup and removal, cleaning buildings and restrooms, assisting skilled trades employees in their duties, other tasks as assigned.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Duties include, but are not limited to, restroom and facilities cleaning, trash removal, and grounds maintenance.
- Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry is not required, but helpful.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
- Successful candidate must be able to work in unfavorable weather conditions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- General knowledge of basic care and use of hand tools, power tools, and cleaning supplies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and follow established policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with park visitors, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Ability to perform maintenance functions.
Additional Considerations:
- Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry is not necessary but preferred.
- Previous experience working in parks, outdoor recreation, landscaping, maintenance, or customer service.
- Experience interacting with the public in a service-oriented role.
- Familiarity with basic trail maintenance, groundskeeping, or facility upkeep.
- Interest in natural resources, conservation, or public lands management.
- Basic first aid, CPR, or willingness to obtain certification.
Special Instructions:
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
