A rather rich stand of acidic oak-hickory forest, transitional to a basic oak-hickory type.  The final classification was determined through quantitative analysis of plot data.  On slope above the Roanoke (Staunton) River at "The Cove," a 180-degree bend in the river in the northeast corner of Halifax County. © DCR-DNH, Gary P.
