(Nature) Lover's Hike

Fall in love with the great outdoors this Valentine’s Day! Join a ranger for a scenic hike through James River State Park and discover the beauty that makes this landscape so special. Along the way, we’ll share fun facts about the plants and wildlife that thrive here and explore how nature nurtures us in return. Whether you come solo, with a partner, or with friends, this easy-to-moderate hike is a perfect way to enjoy fresh air, stunning views, and a little love for the great outdoors.

This scenic out-and-back hike covers approximately 2 miles round-trip and leads to the picturesque Tye River Overlook. The first half-mile includes a steady elevation gain, offering a gentle challenge before the trail levels out for a relaxing walk. Most of the route follows a wide, well-maintained gravel road, making it easy to navigate. As you approach the overlook, the path narrows to a charming gravel trail, rewarding you with breathtaking views of the Tye River and surrounding landscape.

Please meet at the Visitor Center. Suitable for all ages. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and bring a water bottle with you. Parks are for everyone, please let us know if you need special accommodation.
