Bat Bonanza

As the sun dips low and the night draws near, we humans usually turn in for the night, but this is showtime for bats! Join us to celebrate these amazing animals during this special series in collaboration with with Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia. You'll get a rare chance to come face-to-face with these mysterious creatures, learn all about them from local bat rehabilitators, and identify bats in flight using specialized sound-detecting equipment.

What to expect: The first half of the program is a presentation conducted under a covered shelter with seating. Afterward, bat monitoring will include slow-paced walking on flat ground. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress accordingly if you are sensitive to biting insects. Bring binoculars if you have them, and if you decide to bring a light please use it on a red light setting to avoid disturbing nocturnal wildlife. Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash, and this area can be accessed by strollers and wheelchairs.

While registration is not required for this program, it is recommended! If you register, we will be able to contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
