Prior to joining DCR, he spent nearly two decades with the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation as the Associate Director of Governmental Relations, where he managed a range of legislative issues.
Smith's professional background is deeply rooted in the agricultural sector, as he owns a commercial hay and grain farm in Hanover and Caroline Counties with his family.
He is a graduate of the Virginia Agriculture Leaders Obtaining Results program and the Sorensen Political Leaders Program. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in dairy science from Virginia Tech.
